Block Printing on Textiles | Sat. Oct. 18 | 1:00 to 5:00 PM
Instructor: Nick D’Ornellas
This workshop draws inspiration from the traditional block printing techniques found in Indian and Middle Eastern cultures, as seen in their textiles and intricate ceramic tiling. The objective of this workshop is to create a printed textile that delves into a visual technique used for generating patterns, while also comprehending how their recurring motifs swiftly intertwine with an aesthetic interpretation when put through a printed medium.
Participants will learn how to create a seamless repeating pattern which can be either geometric and symmetrical, or organic in nature. The drafted pattern will then be transferred onto a linoleum block to be carved. The carved block will be printed on an assortment of colored textiles. Various modes of tiling the linoleum block on the fabric offer diverse options for creating printed patterns.
Participants are encouraged to explore and experiment during the printing stage of the workshop, crafting a unique textile piece that resonates with their personal touch. No experience necessary; all materials provided.
