Explore an exciting style of making detailed, narrative monotype prints. Monotyping is a unique print which can be made by applying ink to a sheet of plexiglass. Images can be made in the ink itself or by adding carved stencils to the ink. The image is then transferred to paper by running it through a printing press.
In this workshop, we learn various ways to cut, layer, and ink paper in order to print stencil silhouettes. This course encourages alternating between structure and improvisation as students work between the detailed nature of carving and the fast-paced nature of monotyping. Students will learn stencil, transferring images, color mixing, monoprint processes using plexiglass with oil-based inks, and registration techniques.
All supplies provided. No prior printmaking experience necessary.
